When the requirements profile is complex, the obvious solution is not necessarily the best one. At BBG Mindelheim, the internationally active provider of production technologies for joining glass and plastic, simply replacing a 30-year-old boring machine was therefore not enough. MTE developed a long-term, flexible solution for the customer and ultimately prevailed with this approach.

Demanding requirements

Component sizes of up to 3 x 2 meters, weights of up to 15 tons and machining rates of up to 70 percent: the list of requirements for the new machine is extremely demanding. And ideally, the operator should be able to leave the hall after the start, meaning that the machine should run stably and reliably and enable unmanned machining times for as long as possible. Who wouldn’t want that?

Intelligent double pack

Such a scenario can hardly be realized with one machine alone. Our proposal therefore relied on an intelligent double pack: two MTE Bed type milling machines / machines that complement each other perfectly. The BF 3700 with its Flat guides is used for roughing due to its stability and good-naturedness. The RT 3000 Rotary table machine / machines with its large tool magazine with 100 pockets and Stepless / stepless head / heads is suitable for complete five-sided external machining of molds and tools thanks to its flexibility. Both machines are also equipped with a Brankamp tool monitoring system.

Safe and sophisticated

This means that even long machining operations with many tool changes run with 100% process reliability and make the required long unmanned machining times possible. A sophisticated underfloor chip management system also ensures the removal of large quantities of chips, which are transported fully automatically from the hall into a large container.

Convincing all along the line

The creative and technically sophisticated MTE double-pack concept ultimately prevailed in the selection process – also because it was flanked by our convincing service promise. When it came to the availability of spare parts and rental milling heads, we were the only provider able to credibly demonstrate that we could rectify any machine failure in the shortest possible time.

With our MTE BF 3700 and RT 3000 Bed type milling machines / machines, BBG Mindelheim will increase unmanned running times and process reliability, significantly reduce set-up times and save up to 50 percent of the time required for complex machining operations. A result that we are a little proud of.
